On April 16, Mount Wachusett Community Colleges Chi Gamma Chapter of Alpha Beta Gamma (ABG) introduced 36 new members. Just as impressive, the national Business Honor Society for Community, Technical and Junior College students celebrated its 20th anniversary on the campus.

According to Professor Linda Bolduc, the chapter's advisor, over the past 20 years ABG has welcomed over 600 MWCC students. To be eligible for membership, a student must be enrolled in a business curriculum and have completed 15 academic credit hours in a specific degree program. At MWCC, the programs are Business Administration, Paralegal Studies, Computer Information Systems, Computer Graphic Design and Medical Assisting. In addition, the student must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

The induction ceremony began at 5:30 p.m. and after a few words from President Scott Brown, guest speaker Renee Denno spoke to the new members. Due to the recent volcano eruption, the original guest speaker Jason Durkin, Director of Marketing Development of Nypro Inc, was unable to attend. Denno, former president for the society, congratulated the members saying that it is a great accomplishment to become a member. Denno said that the knowledge she learned from ABG helped her throughout her career in the Hospitality field. Dennos advice for the new members was to always reach for the stars because each challenge makes you stronger.

Brown read the names of the students becoming members, each stood proudly and accepted their certificate. "Tonight has been really emotional for me," inductee Thuy Chau said. I can't believe It's actually happening. Amy Doucette agreed saying, I loved tonight; I'm on top of the world."

Student Tracey Adams said that ABG has made her volunteer more. Before ABG she would always think that it was nice for people to help out, but after joining ABG Adams says she is more willing to ask if her help is needed. Just this academic year, ABG has donated time and money to NEADS, a Princeton-based service assistance dog organization; the House of Peace and Education in Gardner; military troops serving overseas; and the national Alzheimer's Association. When asked about the accomplishments ABG has made, Bolduc said, "The students hit the deck running."

Before the night ended, ABG members gave gifts to their supportive professors, including a commemorative award for Bolduc to show their appreciation for her support, encouragement and efforts with ABG. The members also made Durkin an honorary member.

After the guests had left and with the official ABG banner safely back in her office, Bolduc said, "Tonight was flawless."
