The Fitness and Wellness Center is one of many opportunities available to Mount Wachusett Community College (MWCC) students.
The Fitness Center has a $25 initiation fee and is $40 per month for adults, or a $10 "drop-in" fee. But MWCC students have a discount deal of $48 a semester. Full time students, like Danielle Rice, are able to use the facilities for an entire semester. "One of the best things about the Mount is using the gym for such a cheap price," said Rice. "Other places can be so expensive."
Besides being a place to work out, the Fitness Center is also an educational tool for MWCC professors. Nola Sapienza and John McNally use the Fitness Center to teach classes for Fitness Leadership & Exercise Science (LAX) majors. Sapienza uses the exercise machines as a lab in her PER 126/130, a requirement for all major classes. When asked about student membership at the Fitness Center, Sapienza said, "I think 25-30% of my students eventually become members."
The Fitness Center also has classes to help members stay healthy. These classes include, but are not limited to, water aerobics, yoga, martial arts, and dance lessons. Rice said, "I heard they have line-dancing lessons, and since I love country music, I can't wait to try it."
The Fitness Center also offers personal trainers, multiple sport courts, a pool, tanning booths, and a nursery for children six months and older. For more information, call 978-630-9212
