There is no denying that the college experience is a whole different animal from being in high school. One of the most noticeable differences is in the diversity among age groups. With the current trend of parents going to college to at the same time as their kids, Dan and Eileene Farrell are among this rising statistic.
Dan Farrell is broadcasting and electronic media major. When he began attending college, he didn't want an older generation to think he was a young punk. He believes that having classes with people from an older generation is a good forum in which to exchange ideas and thoughts on things with people that have more life experience. He also found that people of any age group are open to his thoughts and ideas as long as they are expressed in a respectful manner and he's willing to hear theirs.
Eileene Farrell is a paralegal studies major. She decided to go back to school after being convinced by her husband to step out of her comfort zone and utilize her brain. At first, she was nervous about going back; she felt like a dinosaur because she had not been in school for so long and feared that her age would make her an outcast among other students. To her surprise, she found that age did not matter due to the fact that everyone in school is on an equal playing field and has the common goal as a student to learn.
The Farrells feel that the older and younger generations can learn quite a bit from one another through the exchanging of thoughts and ideas and that college is an excellent place to achieve this. Dan feels that having his mother at the same school is cool and, just in case his "hunk of junk car" decides to break down, he is guaranteed a ride home. Eileen said she has turned her old way of thinking from "oh boy I'm so old" into "oh my gosh, I'm going to college, this is so cool!" They are both doing their best to better themselves while trying their best not to embarrass each other at school.
