MWCC International Club member Kelly Freeman may seem quiet at first glance, but look a little closer and you will see a 20 year old with big dreams for her future. This third semester Human Services major has a goal. That goal is to help people.
Being a member of the International Club, she believes, will help her achieve that goal. Freeman dreams of one day being a help aid of some sort, either as a marriage counselor, or group therapy leader. She hopes to one day even run AA meetings or other drug abuse rehabilitation counseling sessions. She says that her experience in the International Club has and will continue to enable her to relate to people from all cultures and backgrounds, a trait she believes will be useful in her future endeavors.
Freeman says the International Club is "great to be a part of" and truly enjoys attending club meetings with her fellow club members. This is Freeman's first semester being a part of one of the Mount's most successful clubs, and although she says the club's events are yet to get underway, she feels as though it has played a significant role in her success as a student this fall.
Freeman has also played a large role in the club's success by volunteering to serve at club bake sales and fundraisers. The club will be taking a trip to Boston in two weeks to see a comedy show and eat at an Ethiopian restaurant, and by volunteering, she feels as though she has helped to make this a possibility.
When asked what "multi-cultural" means, she said, "Multi-cultural means people from different cultures coming together to share thoughts and ideas about common subjects. It means listening and learning about other people and what makes up their culture. It means learning new things."
