Apparent broken gas line fuels huge fire in San Bruno

Several local news reports are indicating that a massive fire continuing to burn houses in San Bruno was caused by a broken natural gas line. The fire started at around 6 p.m. at Skyline Boulevard and San Bruno Avenue and was originally thought to be caused by a plane crash.

Peter Meade, chair of the presidential search committee, introduced Dr. M. Lee Pelton as the next president of Emerson College to a packed Cutler Majestic Theater Wednesday morning.

Pelton, the current president of Willamette University in Salem, Ore., will be the 12th president in Emerson's history.

Alumni Association providing bus to Renegades versus Saddleback Football game

The Bakersfield College Alumni Association will sponsor a fan bus to Saddleback College for the Renegades' game versus the Gauchos on Saturday, Sept. 11. The bus will leave Bakersfield College at 2 p.m. and return after the game.

According to a press release from Amber Chiang, the cost for the trip is $35, and does not include food, beverages or tickets for the game.

Student found with handgun, daggers at University Bookstore

A University of Memphis senior is being held in Shelby County Jail this afternoon for carrying a handgun and three daggers onto school grounds.

Rashawn Ahmed Lee, 27, had been talking to two officers working the University Bookstore around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when the student abruptly walked away, leaving behind the gray backpack containing a .40 caliber black Beretta Px4 Storm loaded with a 14-round magazine, an affidavit said. The bag also contained a second magazine with 11 bullets.

A red van belonging to student Christopher Barajas,18, caught on fire at the Park and Recreations lot on L street today (Sept. 2).

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters arrived and put out the fire.

Fire was confined to the engine compartment.

Firefighters put out the fire and disconnected the battery explained Fire Captain Steve Guttierez.

Suspicious item found in Case Hall

Facility services were cleaning the fourth floor bathroom of Case Hall this morning when an employee found a suspicious item, a two-liter soda bottle wrapped in duct tape.

The state police were called to the scene to investigate the item.

The sidewalk between Case and keen Johnson and the Powell corner was closed off during the investigation.

¬¬A line of eager students wrapped around the lobby of Powell today waiting to purchase tickets to the Daniel Tosh comedy show scheduled to appear at Eastern in Brock Auditorium on Nov. 8.

Many students waited in line for close to forty-five minutes. Sarah Gordon, a senior child and family studies major, who had been waiting in line for n, said tickets were almost sold out when she was purchasing hers and people were starting to leave.

Accused baby killer from New Castle arrested in Missouri

A Lawrence County man accused in the death of an 11-month old girl last May is now in police custody in Missouri.

New Castle police confirm 23-year old William Henry Hess, Jr. was arrested in over the weekend and he will be extradited back to Pennsylvania.

Police say the received an arrest warrant last week for Hess charging him in the death of an 11-month old Kaelin Davis, his girlfriend's baby.

She died form blunt force trauma over the Memorial Day weekend.
